ARCHERY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION COURSES
NOTE: USA Archery has redesigned the Level 1 & 2 Instructor Certification courses and the Level 3 NTS Coach Certification Course. Each level is now a two part process: the first part is an online, self-paced course taken on the USA Archery education hub. The second part is a practical course that takes place in person and is scheduled separately with the instructor. Level 1 Certification
The Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course provides graduates the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety both on and off the archery range and ensures that minimum standards for archery instruction are consistently taught to provide for the safety and enjoyment of the participants, instructors and spectators.
Level 1 Instructors are well prepared to teach beginner archery programs to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of both indoor and outdoor settings in the disciplines of target, field or 3-D archery.
The Level 1 Instructor will learn about range safety, range setup, the steps of shooting, equipment and repair, programs and lesson plans.
COURSE LOCATION: Part 1 is taken online via the USA Archery education hub. Part 2 – the “Practical” – is taken in person with an archery instructor trainer.
CERTIFICATION PERIOD: Three years from the date of course completion
PREREQUISITES
- Minimum Age: 15
- Level 1 certification is NOT a prerequisite to attend the Level 2 course

- All Level 1 Instructors who assist in a USA Archery Club are required to obtain a Range Pass.

Level 2 Certification
The Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification Course includes the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course and provides students with an introduction to the National Training System (NTS) Steps of Shooting for recurve and compound, equipment and accessory setup, athlete development and events as well as qualifies students to teach the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course.
Graduates of the Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification Course are well prepared to serve as the lead instructor for long-term archery programs such as Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), Adult Archery Program and Collegiate Archery Program clubs, as well as the Explore Archery Program.

- Membership in USA Archery* or the National Field Archery Association (NFAA)
- U.S. Center for SafeSport Training
- Level 1 certification is NOT a prerequisite to attend the Level 2 course.

Level 3 Certification
he Level 3-NTS Coach Certification Course moves away from group instruction and focuses on individual athlete development. Students in the Level 3-NTS Coach Certification Course will be introduced to coaching philosophy, event preparation, mental skills, training cycles and plans, equipment tuning and receive advanced instruction on the National Training System (NTS) for Recurve and Compound.

CERTIFICATION PERIOD: Three years from the date of course completion
PREREQUISITES
- Minimum age is 19
- Must hold a current Level 2 Instructor certification
OR pass the online USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Certification Course* AND Verify 3 years of documented archery instructor/coaching experience

Your Archery Certification Instructor
Coach Tom is USA Archery trained and certified. USA Archery certification is contingent upon passing a national background check and completion of the Safe Sport training program.
Coach Tom Hinojosa
USA Archery Level 5 NTS High Performance Coach; USA Archery Level 2 Judge; USA Archery Regional Elite Development (RED) Coach; USA Archery 2021 Junior Pan American Games team Head Coach; USA Archery 2022 ISF Gymnasiade team Head Coach; USA Archery Copa Merengue 2022 Head Coach.
Coach Tom has over 35 years of experience in education and outdoor recreation instruction with a degree in Human Biology from Stanford University.
He achieved USA Archery Level 5 NTS Coach certification in 2022.
Coach Tom has coached students to World Archery Youth Indoor Championships, Top 10 National Rankings, USA Archery Junior Dream Team, USA Archery Regional Dream Team, State Indoor Champions, and has worked with international Olympic archers. He has also coached an individual archer to an advanced level and participation in the USA Olympic Trials. And he has been a volunteer coach for the Valor Games for wounded military personnel.
Coach Tom is able to coach/instruct in multiple styles including recurve, long bow, and compound bows.
He began offering private lessons in 2003 when families came to the range looking for qualified instruction. The program quickly grew to include more than 80 students each week supervised by Coach Tom and a team of assistant instructors.
Interest in more advanced training and tournament participation led to the formation of a competition team which resulted in archers achieving placement on international youth USA Archery teams and top 10 rankings in both state and national categories.
Coach Tom teaches the National Training System (NTS), USA Head Coach Kisik Lee’s approach to archery.
He is a full time, professional archery coach, specializing in coaching elite archers, both online and in person, who are focused on attaining their competitive goals.
